Four01 is a static website. We don't run ads, our analytics doesn't use cookies, we don't sell data, and there are no accounts or logins. This page explains the little we do collect and who handles it.
What we collect
- Visits to the site: page-view and performance data through Cloudflare Web Analytics, so we can see which pages people read and whether the site loads quickly. Cloudflare also receives your IP address as part of every web request, which it needs to deliver the page (see below).
- Mailing list: if you choose to sign up, your email address, plus the IP address and referring page that Buttondown records at signup. We use the address to send you our emails; Buttondown keeps the signup details as a record of your consent.
- Emails you send us: if you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever you include, so we can reply.
We don't ask for your name, and there's nothing to log in to.
Analytics
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. According to Cloudflare's documentation:
- The analytics script doesn't use cookies, localStorage or other storage in your browser.
- It collects performance data from your browser, such as page load timings, the page you landed on and the page that referred you.
- Cloudflare receives your IP address as part of the normal web request, but says it discards it at the nearest data center and doesn't store it in its core databases or logs.
- Cloudflare says it doesn't fingerprint visitors or track individuals across the websites that use its service.
- We don't collect analytics from visitors in the European Union: Cloudflare doesn't load the analytics script for them.

Mailing list
Our newsletter is run by Buttondown. When you sign up, you give us your email address and agree to receive our emails. Buttondown says it stores your email address and the IP address and referrer information from when you subscribed.
- Unsubscribe: every email has an unsubscribe link. Buttondown says unsubscribe requests take effect immediately.
- Your data: you can ask for a copy of your data or ask for it to be deleted. Contact us (below) and we'll delete it within 30 days, or contact Buttondown support directly.
- We have turned off Buttondown's open and click tracking, so our emails don't record whether you opened them or clicked a link.

Who handles your data
We use three outside services:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and runs the analytics.
- Google (Gmail) receives and stores email sent to [email protected], which forwards to a Gmail inbox.
- Buttondown runs the mailing list. Buttondown says it doesn't sell subscriber data or use it for advertising, and shares it only with its own service providers, listed on its subprocessor page.
Each has its own privacy terms; Cloudflare's and Buttondown's are linked above, and Google's is at policies.google.com/privacy. Data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States.
How long data is kept
We rely on what our providers say:
- Analytics: Cloudflare says it doesn't store your IP address, and the data it collects isn't tied to you personally.
- Mailing list: Buttondown says it keeps personal information only as long as needed for its service, and deletes subscriber data on request. Some data may stay in backups for a time before it's removed, per Buttondown's privacy policy.
Children
Four01 isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect email addresses from anyone under 18. If you think a child has signed up, contact us and we'll ask for it to be removed.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we may also tell mailing list subscribers.
